also....I have heard about a robotic proceedure for tonsils. Is this a better way to go, and is it available in Iowa?

how old should a child be before he has his tonsils and adnoids removed? My 3 year old grandson has always snored and has had strep throat a couple of times. He has a very small throat and very big tonsils (his pediatrician and ENT have both said this) He is a poor eater, and only weighs 25 pounds. The Ent said he wants to take his adnoids out now and his tonsils next year after he is 4 (march birthday). His pediatrician thinks we should take him to another ENT and have them both taken out now. He is concerned about his snoring and his low weight, and thinks this would help both of those issues. I am worried about him having so much swelling in his small throat having both taken out at the same time and losing weight from not eating. I also wonder if he is old enough to reason with, that he has to at least drink after the surgery. I know that he will have a terribly sore throat for 5 to 7 days. What would you do? Should he go to Mayo clinic or somewhere with the best doctors available?

Stem cells are ?non-specialized? cells that have the potential to form into other types of specific cells, such as blood, muscles or nerves. They are unlike "differentiated" cells which have already become whatever organ or structure they are in the body. Stem cells are present throughout our body, but more abundant in a fetus.
Medical researchers and scientists believe that stem cell therapy will, in the near future, advance medicine dramatically and change the course of disease treatment. This is because stem cells have the ability to grow into any kind of cell and, if transplanted into the body, will relocate to the damaged tissue, replacing it. For example, neural cells in the spinal cord, brain, optic nerves, or other parts of the central nervous system that have been injured can be replaced by injected stem cells. Various stem cell therapies are already practiced, a popular one being bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia. In theory and in fact, lifeless cells anywhere in the body, no matter what the cause of the disease or injury, can be replaced with vigorous new cells because of the remarkable plasticity of stem cells. Biomed companies predict that with all of the research activity in stem cell therapy currently being directed toward the technology, a wider range of disease types including cancer, diabetes, spinal cord injury, and even multiple sclerosis will be effectively treated in the future. Recently announced trials are now underway to study both safety and efficacy of autologous stem cell transplantation in MS patients because of promising early results from previous trials. My ears have been plugged for four weeks due to middle ear infection (otitis media). I have been on antibiotics (initially azithromycin and now just finishing 10 days of moxifloxacin 400mg/day). I have had no improvement. I am a 61 year old male. How much longer can I expect this infection to continue? Do I need to see an ENT? Thank you for any assistance.

For nasal allergies (mold, dust, and tree pollen), is there any particular corticosteroid nose spray that is more effective than the others?

Hi I had a sinus surgery about two years ago but recently have had pressure on my forehead (especially on my right side near the eye. Also in the below, is the ?left? actually referring to my right side?). Hence, I took a CT scan again. Below are the findings:
The patient is status post bilateral partial ethmoidectomies and antrectomies since the prior examination. There is mucosal thickening superficial to an agger nasi cell on the left although the frontoethmoid recess is otherwise clear. The frontal sinuses are otherwise clear. There is no nasal or nasopharyngeal mass. The previously seen deviation of the maxillary spine is no longer present. Maxillary spine appears to have been resected. There is no bony destruction or expansion. The intraorbital contents are unremarkable as is the orbital apex and sella turcica. Middle ear cavity and mastoid air cells are grossly clear.
Would you be able to interpret this in a detailed and understandable way? Also, my doctor recommended that I have another surgery to clean my sinuses (especially frontal). Do you think this is necessary? If not, what other options are there to relieve the pressure?

Thank you.

Dear Doctor,

I am a 45 years old female classical singer and music teacher. For the first time in my singing career since my age of 10, I have started facing a peculiar trouble in my voice since last couple of months.

While singing or even speaking, I have started noticing broken/ vibrating voice at many notes, especially in lower scales. It becomes more perceivable when I remain on a single note for long. But the problem varies significantly practically without any fixed pattern.

With stroboscopic tests, ENT specialists of my place did not find any ?anatomical problem? in my voice box .
Under his suggestion, I had my Thyroid tests done. Report showed my TSH level as 6.80 µIU/ml (Against 0.39-6.16µIU/ml Normal Reference).

My USG Neck report suggested presence of ?Mild Thyroiditis, with tiny nodules.?
Based upon these, the doctor prescribed anti allergic drug and suggested for voice rest for two months.

Without much of positive outcome after two months, he suggested me to consult other ENT specialists and Voice Therapists.

Please suggest my next course of action. May I have any specific treatment of this ailment at your clinic?

Thanking you with regards-

Mrs. Papiya Sarkar

I have had a "clogged ear" feeling for over three years now. I have seen doctos, a few ENT's and they tell me I just have to live with it. Some days it drives me more insane then other days. I feel like I have tried everything and nothing helps it. At the moment I am trying to take Sudafed every 12 hours, and I have a nose spray that I use at times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
